Over the years, college students too worried or too stressed to study abroad have come up with a number of excuses, but really, these excuses just cause the students to miss out on a great opportunity.
College students often site money as a deterrent from studying abroad. However, with scholarships and student loans available to nearly all students, this is hardly a valid excuse.
Some students worry about time. They say that the paperwork is too intensive or that they won’t be able to graduate on time, but the paperwork is definitely not a valid excuse because even the most intensive applications are very reasonable. And graduating early is not as much of a priority among college students as it once was. With an unstable economy and employers requiring more and more of potential applicants, studying abroad is a perfect way to build your resume while delaying entering the lousy job market for a semester.
Finally, college students often worry that they’ll get homesick while abroad. This is certainly a valid concern, and most students to experience homesickness at one time or another while abroad, but this shouldn’t be a deterrent. Once you overcome the initial shock, the homesickness is very manageable, and your friends and family will still be there for you when you return.
